Irish Craft Malts

from little green shoots

Home grown

Irish Craft Malts is a farm based craft malting business. We believe we are unique in Ireland in being the first for several generations to malt our own home grown barley on the farm. Based in the Boyne Valley, home to luscious barley fields and also a growing craft brewing and distilling industry, we are currently malting our 2020 harvest.

100% Irish

We offer our customers a truly 100% Irish craft malt, with guaranteed provenance. Our malt plant runs 500kg batches, so we can process a variety of more specialized malts, with true Irish heritage. Our multi fueled kiln relies on local peat and firewood grown on our own farm.

Distillery ready

We can deliver malt in 20kg bags or half-ton depending on your brewing requirements. Crushed or whole grain, eitherway our malts are freshly produced. So far we are malting base malts and peated malts (oats & barley). Get in touch if you are interested to have unique Irish Craft Malts for your craft brewery or distillery.

Our blog

We post regular blogs of our process, the ups, the bumps, and all the fun we have along the way!
“When we created Micil Heritage peated poitín using a unique family recipe, turf from our family farm, and nothing but 100% Irish oats and barley, we couldn’t look any further than Brendan and Paul at Irish Craft Malts to supply and malt our grains. Their level of attention to detail, the quality of their cereals, and their willingness to listen and adjust the finished product to suit our needs placed them head and shoulders above anyone we’ve ever worked with. They now also malt the grains for the Connemara-peated Micil Whiskey we’re laying down in-house, and the quality of their product continues to be exceptional. They’re a pleasure to work with, and we literally can’t recommend them enough. Go raibh mile maith agaibh lads, from the team at Micil Distillery!”
“It was important to us that our peated single malt was Irish and that led us to Paul and Brendan at ICM, they have been helpful and responsive and willing to use our turf from Donegal. The resulting new make spirit (the first in Donegal since 1841) is smokey and soft right of the still and we will be back for more”
